Visionary Art
STORY

Slipstream is another painting in the "Fall of Atlantis" series. I believe the painting is addressing the formidable power of nature to not only to recover from disaster but to survive it.

In my imagination the water is a torrent flowing into some abyss - sucking everything along with it. Yet the aquatic forms are having no trouble slipping upstream against the current.

The nice thing about these paintings is that I believe they are "channelled" from a god or whatever it is that inspires artists. Therefore, they are freely interpreted by whomever views them. If you interpret the painting to mean something else, then that is exactly the meaning that was meant for YOU to see. Your visions are just as valid as mine. Reality is in the eye of the beholder.

The reason I think they are channelled is the way they are created. I did not intend to paint any of the aquatic forms. They are enormously well detailed and very exact in their definition (check out those scales!). It looks as if I laboured for ages to create such detail, yet it only took 3 or 4 seconds. When one creates with no thought of an outcome and just feels emotions and moves one's body in accordance with those emotions, some completely different order of manifestation occurs that far outstrips anything "intended".

This is what I mean by something magical happening in my paintings. They shape themselves into what they are through the accidents of their creation. I did not intend to create this painting. It just happened.
