The Healing was inspired by someone who came into my art gallery one day. I was deciding what imagery to bring out in the painting and had fixed on the idea of a waterfall flowing into an abyss. My visitor told me the painting disturbed her deeply and went on to tell me a tale of her husband who was dying of cancer.
So I turned the painting upside down and painted her into it. The water became her hair. It was my attempt to heal her - not her husband. Rather than death being like falling into an abyss, the painting reveals it as being pulled back into the womb of the Goddess, perhaps to be reborn as someone else.
There is the hint of a gentle Buddha fading into the upper left of the original.
