The beloved in not a portrait of my ideal woman. It is a magical invocation of her presence at a time in my life when I wanted her to appear.
Like the images in most of my paintings, she appeared almost fully formed through the "accidents' which created the painting. The features of her face, her hair, her body were all created in the initial stages of what was originally an abstract painting. After meditating on it, I realised all I had to do to bring her out was scrape two inches of paint from the front of her body to outline it and then add a few highlights to bring out what was already there. I have changed very little from the original abstract.
This is an example of the phenomenon of spontaneous apparition which occurs in a high percentage of my paintings (90%).
